Her late husband had been a litster, or dyer, and a burgess of the city, suggesting a certain standing within the community. However, this status could not shield her from the accusations of witchcraft that were to seal her fate.
On the 9th of March, 1597, Christen stood accused of participating in witches' meetings – gatherings believed to be orchestrated for malevolent purposes. Her case, referenced as C/EGD/2130, notes that she was included among a group charged with similar offenses. According to the historical documents, her trial, recorded under T/JO/1318, resulted in a swift and unforgiving verdict: guilty. Her confession, documented in March of that same year, possibly under significant duress, aligned with the testimonies of others who named her as an accomplice in witchcraft.
The trial concluded with a sentence of execution carried out on the very day of the verdict, the 9th of March, 1597.
