Described as a "Skynner" or "glover" by vocation prior to transitioning to farming, Jon's skills might have been seen as beneficial, yet in the superstitious times, they also rendered him vulnerable to accusations of witchcraft.
By the time of his accusation in 1631, Neill's reputation had been established for over four decades, and, at the age of 41, he found himself embroiled in charges alleging participation in witches' meetings.
