Case Notes
The king ordered that blank (of noblemen, barons, gentlemen and magistrates) commissions should be passed under the signet and by the subscription for the clerk of Privy Council to the General Assembly for them to hand out as they saw fit for maters of witchcraft. They could issue these blank commissions for arrest, investigation, and trial of witches. The commissions to expire on 1/11/1592. This was granted in response to the fallout around allegations of witchcraft and consulting directed at the Earl of Bothwell and associates.
